Dr. John V. Bowlus is an American historian and energy geopolitics analyst based in Istanbul, Türkiye. He is the founder and director of Energy Straits, an independent advisory specializing in the intersection of energy, infrastructure, and international politics.

His work focuses particularly on the midstream: the pipelines, shipping routes, and infrastructure connecting energy producers and consumers. These networks are not simply commercial assets.
